MILE MARKER #72
Is anyone else getting a little more nervous with the CSA 2010 coming right around the corner? I've glanced through the booklet. There are CSA 2010 booklets for sale at the truck stops for around fifteen bucks, but save the money and read about it free online at: http://www.csa2010.fmcsa.dot.gov/
I guess the thing that I have a problem with this is: it's fine if they want to start this thing, but they are going back around three years to dig up violations for drivers. Then, they will give you a rating based on that. I find that unfair! Everyone should start from scratch, not based on previous happenings.
What do most drivers complain about on the road? Bad drivers, right? That is why this CSA 2010 will eventually benefit drivers for their professionalism. That's what driver's complain about and that is all they're trying to accomplish. Companies will be a little more hesitant as to hiring drivers right from truck driving school, because they also get a points rating also. Good drivers will get what they deserve in the long run. The problem with the start of this thing is that the industry will lose some drivers because they are penalizing them for their past practices. I don't agree with that because their was no warning that they would be held responsible for the past. I'm sure that they have all ready paid for their mistakes all ready.
We don't have a choice. It is coming. They are also working really hard to change the trucking pay scale for drivers to get paid by the hour. I said this all along in past blogs. Their are drivers against the Union, but you get paid for everything that is required for you to do, and you have rights as a driver. Why wouldn't a driver want that? Do you know how many hours drivers put in each week doing stuff that they have to do for their company, and not get paid for it? Getting paid by the hour reduces the "Balls-To-The-Wall" driving mentality and only getting paid while the truck is moving. I've been on both sides and I like where I am at now. I was over the road/48 states and now I am a Union driver for the past 15 years. It's the best thing that has ever happened to me in my trucking career. Some drivers say that I am over-paid, but I tell them that I am not and that they are just under-paid. However you want to look at. I think drivers getting paid by the hour would drastically reduce unnecessary accidents and violations. D.O.T. is really cracking down lately, and it would make a professional driver more rested with less stress.
